Urinetown: the musical

Published: 1 August 2007

Monash University Musical Company (MUMCo) presents Urinetown: the musical.

Urinetown is a tale of greed, corruption, love and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Anyone who refuses to pay for the "privilege to pee" is immediately hauled off to the mysterious 'Urinetown'. Amongst the people, a hero decides he's had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! Could this be a sign of things to come in Melbourne's parched streets? We certainly hope not.
