Monash Law School Lecture - MelbournePublished: 1 August 2007 Topic: The Judicial System and the role of the Supreme Court in Israel Justice Salim Joubran was appointed to the Supreme Court in Israel in 2003 as a temporary judge and has been a permanent member since May 2004, becoming the first Israeli Arab to be appointed permanently to the Court. Justice Joubran earned a law degree from Jerusalem's Hebrew University and entered private practice as a lawyer in 1970. In 1982 he left private practice after 12 years to accept an appointment as a judge on Haifa's Magistrate's Court, where he served for 11 years. In 1993, he was appointed to Haifa's district court, and served in that capacity for another 10 years, following which he was elevated to the Supreme Court. RSVP is essential.
