Sugar malabsorption in healthy volunteers

Published: 1 August 2007

We are seeking healthy male volunteers without frequent gastrointestinal symptoms, such as in irritable bowel syndrome, to undertake hydrogen breath testing studies for fructose malabsorption and lactose intolerance. These sugars are common triggers for gastrointestinal complaints, but it is thought that their malabsorption is common and can go unnoticed in healthy people.

The tests involve collection of breath samples over 2-3 hours, with 3 tests in total.  The tests are undertaken at Box Hill Hospital.

We have recruited a sufficient number of females, so we are now only recruiting male subjects. Please contact me at jacqueline.barrett@med.monash.edu.au if you would like to participate.
