Science and music join forces tonight in a Wesley College concert at the Monash Science Centre.
In an intriguing blend of science and the arts, show bands, singers, and big bands will perform in the first concert to be held at the centre.
The concert is one of four events run at external venues by the Glen Waverley campus of Wesley College. The 150 secondary school students -- plus a parents' choir - will perform to an estimated audience of more than 250 people.
The head of music at Wesley College, Mr George Katsikas, said the decision to hold the traditional concert at the centre might seem incongruous.
"But we felt that our concerts need to not only challenge audiences and performers from a musical perspective, but should also challenge us in the environment in which the performances take place," he said.
"In some small way, bringing our concert to the science centre is an attempt to reinvigorate and redefine the experience of performance."
The centre is also currently hosting 'The Artist and the Scientist' featuring the works of artist Peter Trusler, who turns scientific information and ideas into pictures. Highlights include the skeletons of a giant lizard Megalania attacking an extinct flightless bird displayed alongside his series of illustrations of the animals.
