(The video is designed to introduce new students to the facilities and services available to them at the Caulfield Campus of Monash University. The video is hosted by two Caulfield campus students - Jack and Megan).

(Jack and Megan standing out the front of the Student Service Centre in Building A)
G'day I'm Jack. And I'm Megan. And welcome to Monash University Caulfield Campus. Today we're going to take you on a short tour of the campus and show you some of the great facilities that Caulfield has to offer. Sounds pretty good Megan, well I'm going to go over to Building S. And I'm going to go into the Student Service Centre. Meet up later? Sounds good. Easy.
(Megan talks to Jayne in the Student Service Centre)
Here we are at the Student Service Centre where I'm sure a lot of you have been for your enrolments. We're going to talk to Jayne who works here. Hi Jayne, how are you going? Good Megan, nice to see you. You too. Can you explain what you do here? Sure. The Student Service Centre provides information on a wide range of administrative topics. Things like fees, enrolments, exams, scholarships, parking permits for example. If students have questions about these they can either come in and see us or they can log on to our convenient on line enquiry service, ask.Monash, using their my.Monash portal where they can search a database of over 800 student questions either from home, or if they're here on campus, they come and use one of our ten student PCs (images of PCs shown). They can also stop in at the Service Centre if they want a copy of a course guide, to catch up on some study, or if they want to see what's happening on campus on one of our plasma screens (image of plasma shown). We've also got, on counter ten over here, ITS Services. So if students have problems with their computer accounts or emails, they can come and see the guy at counter ten and they'll help them out. Great. What a great facility. Thanks a lot Jayne. Thanks Megan.
(Jack walks along the level two walkway to Building S)
I'm on the level two walkway heading over to Building S where I'm going to find the MONSU Caulfield Service Desk.
(Jack visits the MONSU Caulfield Service Desk)
Alright now, through those glass doors, and on level two of S Building we are going to find the MONSU Caulfield Service Desk. This is basically where I can get my assignments bound, photocopying, printing, pick up a diary, lost property, anything I need from the super friendly staff. All you have to do is come here and talk to them and they're ready to help you with whatever you need.
(Jack talks to Reima in the MONSU Caulfield Offices)
Alright now, behind the Service Desk is basically where all the MONSU Caulfield Representatives hang out. These are the offices where you can come and have a chat and where basically everything's organised. Let's have a look. Reima. How are you going mate? What's happening brother? Nothing much, nothing much. Now, Reima is our Activities Officer. Reima, tell me at Monash, why should I join a club? Why should you join a club? Well basically it's a fantastic way just to get involved, make stacks of new friends, something to do during classes and generally a great place to come and hang out and just get involved in activities. Nice one, nice one. So these offices basically what? You can just come back here and chill out? Yes. Study? Yes. Exactly, anyone is welcome. Anyone's welcome? Anyone's welcome to come in, pop in to say hi, we always like to see new faces, which is really good. Champion. Champion . So Reima, tell me. Where do I sign? Where do you sign up? Just come in and say hello and we'll sign you up straight away; get you involved. Sweet. So come down and say hi.
(Jack points out some of the facilities and services available on level 2 of Building S)
Directly opposite from the MONSU Service Desk is an ATM which will accept all major cards providing that you've actually got money in there. If you keep going through the corridor we've actually got a phone shop here. You can get repairs done, you can even recharge if you manage to pull some money out. There's also a Student Travel Agency, you can actually book a trip to Thailand (Jack points to holiday poster) at a nice cheap rate. Once you've done that you can go over to Red Jackets here and get some really nice café style food or a mean coffee to pump you up for that study. Luke, peace (Jack waves to Luke behind the counter).
(Jack heads toward the Student Lounge then images of the lounge scroll through whilst he speaks)
Once you've done that you can head over to the Student Lounge, you can chill out with the plasma screen TV, meet up with your friends and basically just relax.
(Jack enters the parenting, rest and disability room)
Another one of the facilities that Monash Caulfield provides is a Parenting Room and a Rest Room for those with a disability or medical condition. This is it here. Basically, all you need to do if you want access to this room is go and speak to the MONSU Caulfield Service Desk Staff.
(Jack visits the OSS lounge)
Also on level two of Building S is the OSS lounge. It's the lounge where international students can relax and unwind (Jack opens a paper lantern).
(Megan walking up the stairs in building S)
I'm in Building S heading up the stairs to level 3. Let's go have a look what's up there.
(Megan talks to Crystal in the MONSU Student Rights Office)
Here I am at MONSU Student Rights and Support, I'm going to have a chat to Crystal. Hi Crystal. Hi Megan. Can you tell us why a student would come up here to level three? Yes, we provide advice and information on their academic rights. So if a student is ill and they can't submit an assignment we explain to them how to apply for an extension. If they received a result they weren't happy with we explain the process for appealing that. So if I were to receive a letter from my faculty about my academic progress, how can you help me with that? I'd explain why you received the letter, what the process is, possible outcomes, I'd assist you in writing a submission and I'd support you the whole way through. What a fantastic service. Thanks Crystal. Thank you.
(Megan talks to Craig in Employment and Career Development)
We're still on level three but now we're at Employment and Career Development. I'm here with Craig. Hi Craig. Hi Megan. Could you please explain some of the services you provide for students? We're a support service for students, we help them find employment, part-time and casual, we also help them with the written application process, putting together cover letters and resumes with our drop-in service, our seminars and our on-line service. We then help them with their interview stills to get that job they're looking for. Sounds like the perfect service for any university student. Thanks Craig.
(Jack in the foyer of building K)
Now obviously starting uni is a pretty big thing. You've got to learn room numbers, where you have to be, what time. Basically how it all works is K3.21 is where we are now. Building K, level 3, and this (indicting room 21) is one of our biggest lecture theatres and we're actually going to go inside and crash it and see what's going on. Let's have a look.
(Jack enters the Lecture Theatres and talks to Peter the lecturer)
Knock, knock. Alright guys, we've actually just gate crashed a marketing lecture. This is Peter Wagstaff, aka ‘Wags'. G'day Jack. What's going on Wags? I didn't expect you here. Clearly not. Wags, I'm dying to know, what is a lecture? A lecture, as you can see, is a large group of students who arrive here once a week, where we discuss the core theories of each subject, as you can see, quite a large group so it's difficult for a lot of interaction what happens then later in the week is everyone gets together in smaller groups, in tutorials, where they get a chance to discuss things in much more detail. Have a bit of a chat? Have a bit of a chat about the subject, that's right. Excellent, sounds pretty good. You enjoyed the lectures didn't you? I did, I did well you know my exam mark was a bit different..... It wasn't that bad, you got through, so well done. Thanks Jack .No worries. Have a good one. Good luck (to students).
(Jack enters one of the first year tutorial rooms and talks to Marcus)
(content of tutorial)…okay, so we're looking at the core reasons for buying a product. Can anyone give me another core reason for buying a Nokia product? Mark? Status symbol. Status symbol, that's a good one (Jack enters the room - end tutorial content.). Marcus. Jack. Sorry to interrupt mate. No worries, good to see you. You too, buddy. Now we've just actually been at a first year lecture. Wags mentioned a first year tut. I'm assuming this is it. This would be a first year tutorial, that's correct. So what's actually the difference between a tut and a lecture? Well, generally the difference between a tutorial and a lecture is a smaller surrounding, as you can see, it's a little bit more intimate, a chance for students to interact, possibly discuss some of the questions they didn't get a chance to talk about in the lecture. Sort of consolidate all those big ideas? Yes, consolidate, discuss, that sort of thing, interaction is the key thing. Sounds pretty good. Well, I better let you get back to it, these guys look like they're having fun. Thanks a lot mate. No worries, nice to see you. Take it easy. See you. Good luck (whispered to students).
(Jack and Megan meet up and walk around the Caulfield Library)
I'm here at the Caulfield library on level two of Building A. Hello, fancy seeing you here. Shush, it's a library Megan (laughing). Sorry. Do you want to go in and have a look? Sweet. (They enter the library). Did you see that plasma screen Jack? Yes. They've got announcements and information about the library running all day long. Very informative. Did you know the library is also open until twelve midnight Monday to Friday? Come in, log on to one of the 170 computers they've got available, print your assignments or even tap into the wireless network here. This here is my student card. It enables me to borrow, photocopy and print; all with the one card. And the information desk behind you? Over here they can use their expertise research skills to help you with research for assignments, you can also book library tours and learning skills classes. So what, that's like essay skills and referencing? Yes, all that stuff.
(Megan climbs the stairs in the library and sees Jack writing at a desk)
Here we are at level three of the library at the Learning Skills area. What are you doing Jack? I'm putting my name down for a learning skills drop-in session Megan. All I do is put my name on this list, I'll be seen to in the order of arrival and then I'll watch the distinctions roll in. That sounds great, I want to sign up as well. You probably should.
(Megan talks to Suzanne at Health Wellbeing and Development)
I'm here at Health Wellbeing and Development, I'm going to have a chat with Suzanne. I think she's in here. Hi, how are you going? Hello, welcome to Health, Wellbeing and Development. Thank you. Can you tell us why a student would come to Health, Wellbeing and Development? With pleasure. We have a range of services here to help students get the most out of their time at Monash. We've got a full health service, male and female doctors, for any kind of problem. They do prefer appointments, you can ask for a long consultation and it's free for students. There are also a physio, a masseur and an optometrist who give heavily discounted rates to students. We've also got a counselling service here. Why would a student come to counselling? Well, any problem at all no matter how big or how small. In fact we say to students come with a small problem we can help you prevent it from becoming a big problem. We also prefer appointments but we do have drop-in every afternoon. Then we've the Student Advisor Hub which is a one stop shop, all your questions answered in one place but particularly they provide international student support, they provide information about student loans and budgeting and there are a range of opportunities for students to volunteer on the campus, which is great. They are co-located with Monash Residential Services who provide for all students' housing needs. Okay, fantastic. Would you like to come and look at the Spiritual Centre that we've got just across here? Yes, sounds good. (Suzanne leads Megan over to the Spiritual Space) This is a lovely space that is available to students to rent for any kind of spiritual or religious activity but we also have Mindfulness Meditation here every day, you can see it's set up for that now, and that's a wonderful opportunity for people to learn to focus on what they want to focus on and to relax, and as well as that, next door here, we have a quite room (Suzanne leads Megan into the Quiet Room) and the quiet room just provides a place where people can just have some time out, just come in here and be on their own, one of the few places on campus that they can do that. And would you like to have a look at the Health Service? Yes, that sounds good. Come across. (Suzanne takes Megan to the Health Service where they find Jack with Nurse Ribina). So, Nurse I think it could be separation anxiety, from my ex-girlfiend (Jack laying down having his blood pressure taken). Hi Jack. I wondered where you'd got to, what are you doing? As you can see this is a fully equipped health service and Jack's talking to Nurse Ribina, is he going to make it? Maybe. Come on Jack we've got more stuff to see, let's go. But I was in the middle of a chat. (laughing).
(Jack talks with Sarah at the Monash Postgraduate Association Office)
I'm heading into the basement of Building H where I'm going to find the Monash Postgraduate Association; hopefully I'm also going to find Sarah. Hi Jack. There she is how are you Sarah? Alright how are you? I'm good mate. So Sarah, tell me why would a student actually come to the Monash Postgraduate Association? Well, the Monash Postgraduate Association is a representative body for all postgraduates here at Monash University and we do keep postgraduates in touch with each other through several seminars and social events so be sure to get involved and participate. I will thank you. Great.
(Jack visits the Postgraduate lounge and chats with some postgraduate students)
I shouldn't really be here but this is the Postgraduate Lounge in Building H, there's a kitchenette, there's vending machines and there's even some postgrads for us to have a chat with. How are you guys? Hi, good (from group). Sweet, now tell me, what's it like being a postgraduate at Monash? Well, it's fun, it's challenging, you have a vibrant life full of activities. It's a good opportunity for you to become familiar with other students from different cultures, different countries. Yes, as well as helping me to gain more knowledge to go for my next job if I finish. What you really need is time management between your academic life and your social life. Yes, and teamwork, you can cooperate with different people from different backgrounds, it's a really good skill. Well, don't forget beside studying, take part in social activities, be a volunteer at uni it's really good fun. You'll enjoy it. Awesome, tell you what guys, I'll go finish my degree and see you back here a little bit later. Great. (laughing).
(Megan in the MONSU Campus Bookstore purchases some books)
I'm here in the campus bookstore on level two of Building K on the walkway. You can come here for your textbook, stationery and merchandise. Just these ones thanks (to person behind the counter). Sure.
(Jack talks with Jeremy in the Monash Sport Fitness Centre - images of Jack using the equipment and trips and tours scroll through whilst they speak)
To get the best out of uni it's really important to balance your work with your health and wellbeing. That is what Monash Sport's for. Let's go check it out. Jeremy. Hi Jack, how are you? Good buddy, what's going on? Yes, a lot. Fantastic. This is Monash Sport, this is the uni gym. Basically, what is Monash Sport here to do for me as a student? Okay, basically we've got a few different things that we can do; we've got the fitness centre here which provides for all your fitness needs through personal training and assessments, group exercise classes, we have all the treadmills which you can come and have a run on for up to twenty minutes in peak times, we've also got the cycles and so on, all the weight machines and free weights, that pretty much covers the fitness centre but we also get involved in community events such as the Mother's Day Classic, Around the Bay, we have a lot of trips and tours which we provide for the students, down to Phillip Island or down the Great Ocean Road. We also have the Australian University Games so we get heavily involved in there as well. But we're basically here to provide as many activities both from a fitness point of view and social point of view as well. Social sports we have here during the evenings and at lunchtimes but we also have a lot of club involvement. We always try to get everybody involved at the clubs here at uni. Nice one, sounds like it is packed. It is. Tell you what, let's get physical. Alright, let's go. (Jack rides the bike in a cycle class) Monash Sport offers a stack of fantastic activities that you can get involved in. This one here is a spinning class. Tour de France here I come. (Images of sporting activities scroll through whilst Jack talks about activities that take place in Chisholm Hall) Chisholm Hall is a great venue for social sport and lunchtime activities. There's badminton, the occasional paper plane fight, indoor soccer, volleyball, table tennis and basketball so come check it out, meet friends and stay fit. (Jack and Megan on the Tennis Courts throwing tennis ball then talking about other sporting facilities available to students) Jack, these tennis courts are great but I think next time we should probably bring the rackets. I left them at the Australian Open Megan (laughing). Now tennis courts, which are right next to Building T, are available for hire through Monash Sport, there's four of them so you can come down with your mates, have a friendly hit, or hone in on your skills. Right behind us here we've got a footy oval and a soccer pitch, you can also play cricket, have a bar-b-que maybe a picnic or even go for a run. Or even do some meditating. Maybe, how about next time we play tennis you bring the rackets?
(Images of campus activities scroll thought whilst Megan talks about Mid-Week Socials and other activities held for students)
There are so many fun activities here at Caulfield. Here's some real snow brought in from Mt Buller. There's also sports, DJs, bar-b-ques and parties. Mid-Week Social Night, on a Wednesday from 5 - 7 pm, is a great way to meet other students and make friends. There's awesome activities like campus trivia nights and often there's free food which is a big attraction.
(Megan standing on the lawns in the centre of campus then placing rubbish in a recycle bin)
These lawn areas are the central hub of the Caulfield campus, they're great for events, activities and sport. We've got a bar-b-que over in the corner here as well as another bar-b-que area over on that side. These other two lawns are fantastic places to just sit and chill out and relax with your friends. At Caulfield, we take recycling very seriously around campus you'll see these yellow and red bins please try to use them when ever you can.
(Jack by the lockers)
Now if you need a locker for any reason at all; all you need to do is go to the MONSU Caulfield Service Desk where you can book it for a semester or even a year. Basically that's where you go, that's where I was before, that is where all the action happens and that is where you can get one of these.
(Jack visits Tower Sushi)
One of the awesome food outlets on campus is Tower Sushi with a fantastic range of Japanese food. (Jack indicates the eating area beside Tower Sushi) Just another one of the awesome spots on campus where you can chillax, eat your sushi, meet up with your friends or hey, even do some study.
(Megan sits at a table outside MamaDuke Café)
MamaDuke Café - great food, great coffee, great atmosphere.
(Megan and Jack indicate places to eat on campus)
Two great eateries on campus are on level two of Building C. I'm going to go to Fresco Juice Bar and get my energy kick (Jack picks up a drink from the counter). And I'm going to go over to Camino Coffee House and get a toasted sandwich (Megan walks toward Camino's).
(Jack walks down the ramp at the Caulfield Train Station)
Now getting to Caulfield is really easy. I've just caught the train but you can catch the bus or even one of the trams. If you're driving you could park at the racecourse or even the multi-story car park I've got behind me. If you riding your bike and you're a bit more green conscious, you can even use one of our many bike racks we've got available. (Jack at the intercampus bus stop) The intercampus bus runs between Clayton and Caulfield, it's free, all you need to do is show your ID, check the timetable on the bus shelter and you're on.
(Jack talks about the security bus service whilst images of the service scroll through)
Monash Caulfield also offers students an evening security bus which is free. It runs from the start of semester one until the end of semester two and from 5.30pm to midnight and drops you at car parks close by to uni. Before you ride just come and check with security for exact times and dates.
(Jack and Megan at Caulfield Racecourse)
Well guys this is it, it's exam time, the energy's electric, I've got my thinking hat on. We're here at Caulfield Racecourse where all our exams are held. This is the Exam Help Desk, let's go in and have a look. (Jack and Megan inside the Caulfield Exam Helpdesk Office) Here we are at the Exam Help Desk where you can come for directions, to check your seat number and come for help if you've forgotten your student card. Let's go and see if they can help us out with something. G'day Arnold. G'day Jack. Would you be able to explain to me what marketing segmentation means? (laughing) That was a joke, unlike the Exam Help Desk which is here to help you with all your exam enquiries. (Megan talks whilst images of the examination venue scroll through) This gives you an idea of what the exam venues at Caulfield Racecourse are like. Now you'll all spend a fair bit of time here but you'll get used to it. They're big, full of students and everyone's very quiet.
(Megan and Jack on top of the multi level car park making closing remarks)
We're here on top of the multi-level car park on the car pooling level and what a fantastic view. Full on Megan, Monash has so much to offer. Great campus, great services, great staff and a fantastic environment to be in. So come and max out your university experience at Monash Caulfield.
