(The video is designed to introduce new students to the facilities and services available to them at the Parkville Campus of Monash University. The video is hosted Tra-My a Parkville campus student).
(Tra-My out the front of Parkville Campus)
Hi, my name is Tra-My welcome to Monash University Parkville, the home of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Let's take a tour around campus and I'll show you everything it has to offer.
(Tra-My on the street out the front of the campus talking about transport)
The first thing you want to know is how to get here. The number 19 tram stops right outside the campus just 20 metres away, otherwise we’ve got the train station around the corner or you may consider driving because there’s plenty of parking around.
(Tra-My talks with Chiara at the Student Service Centre)
If you ever have any questions the Student Services counter is a great place to start looking for answers. I’ve got Chiara with me to tell us some more. Hi. At the Student Services counter you can print out new ID cards, request student letters, pay your fees, and we’ll help with any enquiries you might have on campus. Thanks for that Chiara .
(Tra-My sits on couch and talks about other support services available on campus)
There are also lots of support services to help you throughout your time on campus; they include the Disability Liaison Unit and Monash Residential Services.
(Tra-My out the front of the SPP bookshop)
Just down the road at the top of Royal Parade is the SPP with all the books you need. Booklists can be found on-line.
(Tra-My talks to Tom and Andrew about the MPSA)
At Parkville there are two student associations. First up, I’ve got Tom and Andrew from MPSA to tell us a bit more. We’re the student body on campus so we provide you with all the services you might need. We also voice your concerns to the faculty as well. We run great events like the VCP Ball. And don’t forget we’ve got lots of clubs and societies you can join. So, get involved and maybe even become a student representative like us. Awesome, thanks for that guys. No worries.
(Tra-My talks to Gemma about the VCPPA)
Hey guys, we’re in the postgraduate common room and I’ve got Gemma here with me to tell us all about the VCPPA. Hi Tra-My. The VCPPA represents all postgraduate students and we’re here to enhance your postgraduate academic and social experience. We’re also working closely with MPA to build on the postgraduate community. That sounds goods. Thanks for that Gemma. Thanks Tra-My.
(Tra-My with Jessica at the snake pit talking about student life and activities)
I’m here at the snake pit with Jess, our Student Activities Officer she organises all those really important non-academic activities. Jess, tell us what you do. Well, you’ll see me at Orientation week, you’ll see me at Careers Week, I run programs such as the Student Ambassadors Program and if you’ve ever got any ideas on how to improve student life on campus just come on down and see me and we’ll see what we can do. Cool, thanks for that Jess. No worries.
(Tra-My in the cafeteria)
On campus our café is available if you’re feeling a little bit hungry, there are all sorts of food to eat, hot soup and great coffee.
(Tra-My talks about the student spaces available on campus)
Right next to the café we’ve got this great space here with lots of tables and chairs for you to come and hang out or you can go shoot some pool or play table tennis in our undergraduate common room or just chill and relax watching some TV in the Cube.
(Tra-My talks to Brendan about Monash Sport out the front of the campus)
The great thing about being here at Parkville is all the great sporting facilities around. Just behind the campus we’ve got a golf club, the State Netball and Hockey Centre and across the road is Princess Park. I’ve got Brendan here from Monash Sport to tell us a bit more. Hi Tra-My. Further to these great facilities Monash Sport manages the University Alpine Lodge which is located at Mt Buller. The lodge is available to staff, students and the general community all year round for bookings. We also have intercampus sports which students can get involved in such as Monash Metro Games and also inter university sports such as Australia University Games where universities from across Australia come together to compete in sport. Further to this you can also participate in a Team Monash community fitness event which is a great way to get fit, have fun and meet new people and for those students that are wanting to discover a bit more Australia and see more of the attractions, you can also get on board our trips and tours which are a lot of fun. For any further information you can check us out at http://sport.monash.edu.au/. Cool, that sounds really awesome, thanks Brendan. Thanks Tra-My.
(Tra-My talks to Maxine in the Library)
I’m here at the Library where they’ve got all your on-line, off-line and printer needs covered. I’ve got Maxine here to have a quick chat with us. Hi Maxine, tell us more about the Library. Sure, we’ve got all of the answers here for the questions for your assignments, we’ve got people here who can help you find those answers and we’re the first port of call for information technology services for your basic computing needs, so please do come and see us. Okay, thanks for that Maxine. Also in the Library we’ve got someone here to help you with learning skills. Let’s go and have a quick chat to Barry.
(Tra-My talks to Barry the Learning Skills Advisor)
Hi Barry, how are you going? Tell us more about what you do. Hi Tra-My, I’m with the Learning Skills Unit, I’m here to help students to support them with their learning or their studying. They can either drop in or make an appointment to see me for a longer period of time. So I hope to see them here. Great, thanks for everything Barry.
(Tra-My sitting in front of a monitor talking about the my.monash student portal)
My.Monash is your on-line gateway; it includes such things as your web enrolment, Monash email and your studies on-line.
(Tra-My talks to Jaci about International Student Support)
Everyone is welcome here at Parkville. I’m just on my way to meet up with Jaci from International Student Support. Hi Jaci. Hi. Tell us about the role you play. International Student Support provides a range of programs and services for the students of Monash Parkville. We help with accommodation, overseas student health cover, providing general help with their studies here at Monash as well as any ongoing visa or immigration issues. So what you’re saying is that there’s plenty of support for international students? Absolutely. Thanks Jaci. Thanks Tra-My.
(Tra-My at Health Wellbeing and Development with Andrew)
I’m at Health Wellbeing and Development, if I was feeling a bit anxious about exams, a little bit homesick or just generally a bit down this is the place I’d go to for help. I’ve got Andrew here with me. Andrew, you’re the Counsellor here aren’t you? That’s right Tra-My. I provide personal and study related counselling at the Parkville campus. Our services are free, private and confidential. And I suppose the important thing to remember is that you don’t have to wait until things are a crisis to benefit from our services. There’s a good piece of advice, seek help early. But Andrew, Health Wellbeing and Development does a lot more than Counselling doesn’t it? That’s right we provide chaplaincy, financial aid, international student support and a whole lot of other services. And if they’re not based here at Parkville students are welcome to access them at other campuses as well. Great, thanks for everything Andrew. Thank you.
(Tra-My talks about sustainability and being green on campus)
Monash is strongly committed to being environmentally responsible. As a student your environmental behaviour is really important to Monash and the community. There are two main things you can do. One, use your voice and two, take action. Simple tasks like recycling and switching off lights can really make a difference and help Monash in achieving its aims of reducing energy consumption.
(Tra-My making closing remarks at the front of the campus)
Monash University Parkville Campus is a great close knit community, make sure you get involved take advantage of all the services we've got here and I'll see you around the campus.
