Beta blockers were found to offer no additional survival benefit for heart attack survivors who take two other medicines as prescribed, according to a new study involving Monash University’s Centre for Medicine Use and Safety.

Professor William Charman, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, has been made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS). The Honorary Fellowship was bestowed at a Royal Pharmaceutical Society event at the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) world congress in South Korea last night.

Associate Professor Kirstie Galbraith has been awarded an International Pharmaceutical Federation Fellowship at the FIP Congress in South Korea over the weekend. Also announced was the reappointment of Professor William Charman, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, as the chair of the International Pharmaceutical Federation Education Initiative (FIPEd) Steering Committee.

A world-leading team, led by Professor Jian Li from the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI), has been awarded a multi-million dollar grant by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) to further its pioneering work on drug discovery, tackling antibiotic-resistant 'superbugs'.
