Courses and degrees (general) regulations
Regulations made pursuant to Statute 6.1.2 - Courses and degrees
Restrictions on enrolment and graduation
1. No person shall be entitled to enrol or re-enrol for any course of
study, subject or unit at the university or to be admitted to any degree
or awarded any diploma of the university:
1.1 while that person is excluded from the university; or
1.2 while any prescribed fees are presently due for payment by that person
to the university; or
1.3 while any moneys other than fees referred to in subsection 1.2 are
presently due for payment by that person to the university, or any moneys
which became payable under any repealed regulation of the university remain
unpaid, unless the registrar in that officer's absolute discretion gives
the person permission to do so.
1.4 Where a person fails to enrol or re-enrol by the due date for such
enrolment or re-enrolment, that person shall pay, in addition to the fees
otherwise payable, such late fees as may be imposed by the registrar at
rates prescribed by the Council.
2. While the determination of any disciplinary proceedings or of any appeal
against a disciplinary determination is pending, the person against whom
the proceedings have been taken or by whom the appeal has been made, as
the case may be, shall not, if the vice-chancellor so directs, be entitled
to be admitted to any degree or awarded any diploma of the university
until the determination of those proceedings or that appeal.
Enrolment and re-enrolment for higher degrees
3.1 In this section 'higher degree candidate' means a candidate for a
higher degree of the university, being a masters degree or the degree
of Doctor Of Philosophy, and includes a person who has been admitted to
a preliminary course for a higher degree, and a person who has been accepted
by the faculty concerned as suitable for higher degree candidature but
who has not yet been admitted to candidature for a specific higher degree.
3.2 A higher degree candidate shall -
3.2.1 enrol within one month of admission to candidature, or of being
accepted as suitable for candidature, as the case may be; and
3.2.2 if qualified to do so, thereafter re-enrol in the next succeeding
stage of the higher degree course during the period in each year applicable
to that candidate and prescribed by the registrar; and
3.2.3 enrol or re-enrol, as the case may be, by completing and delivering
to the university a form of enrolment or re-enrolment prescribed by the
registrar, and by paying such fees as may be applicable.
3.3 Where a higher degree candidate fails to enrol or re-enrol in accordance
with subsection 3.2, candidature shall lapse until the date on which the
candidate enrols or re-enrols, as may be appropriate, and pays, in addition
to the fees otherwise payable, such late fees as may be imposed by the
registrar at rates prescribed by the Council.
