Graduate certificates</strong></p> <p>The graduate certificates that may be undertaken in the faculty are specified in the schedule. </p> <p><br /> <strong>2. Interpretations</strong></p> <p>In these regulations, unless the contrary intention appears - <br /> <br /> 'approved' means approved by the faculty board;<br /> <br /> 'candidate' means a candidate for a graduate certificate;<br /> <br /> 'course of study' in relation to a graduate certificate means the course of study for the graduate certificate as determined by the faculty board under these regulations;<br /> <br /> 'dean' means the dean of the faculty;<br /> <br /> 'faculty' means the Faculty of Business and Economics;<br /> <br /> 'faculty board' means the faculty board of the faculty;<br /> <br /> 'faculty information handout' means a faculty handbook or such other publication whether in bound, loose leaf or <br /> <br /> electronic form concerning a course of study as the faculty board determines from time to time.<br /> <br /> 'graduate certificate' means a graduate certificate specified in the schedule. </p> <p><br /> <strong> 3. Course of Study</strong></p> <p><strong>3.1</strong> A course of study comprises subjects as determined by the faculty board under this section.<br /> <br /> <strong>3.2</strong> The faculty board may from time to time, with the approval of the Academic Board, determine the subjects comprising a course of study and may in relation to those subjects determined any matter including but not limited to requirements concerning -<br /> <br /> <strong>3.2.1</strong> number, timing, content and duration;<br /> <br /> <strong>3.2.2</strong> attendance and participation;<br /> <br /> <strong>3.2.3</strong> assessment; and<br /> <br /> <strong>3.2.4</strong> satisfactory completion.<br /> <br /> <strong>3.3</strong> The faculty board must cause each determination under this section to be published in a faculty information handout. </p> <p><br /> <strong> 4. Approval of work</strong></p> <p>Before enrolling in any year of a course of study, a candidate must obtain the dean's approval of the subjects proposed to be undertaken by the candidate in that year and, unless otherwise authorised by the dean, the candidate must not undertake in that year any other subject in the course of study. </p> <p><br /> <strong> 5. Academic progress</strong></p> <p>The faculty board may review the academic progress of a candidate and, after taking into account any recommendations from the dean and after giving the candidate an opportunity to be heard, may terminate the candidature on the grounds of unsatisfactory progress. </p> <p><br /> <strong> 6. Credit for equivalent work</strong></p> <p><strong>6.1</strong> Subject to 6.2, where it is expressed in the schedule that credit is allowable in respect of a graduate certificate, a candidate for the graduate certificate who, not more than five years before admission to candidature, completed work which the dean is satisfied is equivalent to particular requirements of the relevant course of study, must be deemed to have completed those requirements and must be granted credit towards the certificate in respect of them.<br /> <br /> <strong>6.2</strong> In no case may credit be granted in respect of more than 50 per cent of the requirements of a course of study.<br /> <br /> <strong>6.3</strong> A candidate granted credit under subsection 6.1 must complete the relevant course of study within the time specified by the dean. </p> <p><br /> <strong> 7. Time limits</strong></p> <p>Except where the faculty board in any particular case otherwise determines or as otherwise provided in these regulations, a candidate must complete a course of study in -<br /> <br /> <strong>7.1.1</strong> a maximum of four semesters; and<br /> <br /> <strong>7.1.2</strong> a minimum of one semester of full-time candidature or two semesters of part-time candidature. </p> <p><br /> <strong> 8. Leave of absence</strong></p> <p>The faculty board may grant a candidate leave of absence for such periods and on such conditions as the board determines. </p> <p><br /> <strong> 9. Submission of previous work</strong></p> <p>A candidate must not submit for a graduate certificate any work previously accepted or, except with the permission of the faculty board, previously submitted for an award of the university or of any other educational institution. </p> <p><br /> <strong> 10. Satisfactory completion</strong></p> <p>A candidate who satisfactorily completes the course of study for a graduate certificate qualifies for that graduate certificate. </p> <p><br /> <strong> 11. Changes in regulations and course of study requirements</strong></p> <p><strong>11.1</strong> Subject to this section, a candidate must comply with these regulations and with the requirements concerning the relevant course of study determined by the faculty board under these regulations, as in force or published from time to time.<br /> <br /> <strong>11.2</strong> Where the faculty board considers that a candidate has, since first enrolling for a graduate certificate, been unreasonably adversely affected by any change in the regulations or course of study requirements, the faculty board must permit the candidate to qualify for the graduate certificate under the regulations or course of study requirements in force or published at some time during candidature, provided the board is satisfied that the work so required to be completed is equivalent in standard to that currently required to complete the course of study. </p> <p align="right"><b><a HREF="#calendar">TOP</a></b></p> <h3><a name="Heading03" id="Heading03"></a>Part 2 - Admission to candidature</h3> <p><strong><br /> 12.1</strong> Subject to the specific provisions of these regulations or where the faculty board in any particular case otherwise determines, an applicant for admission to candidature for a graduate certificate -<br /> <br /> <strong>12.1.1</strong> must have qualified for a degree of the university or of an approved educational institution or hold a qualification deemed equivalent by the faculty board; and<br /> <br /> <strong>12.1.2</strong> where in the schedule in relation to the graduate certificate -<br /> <br /> <strong>12.1.2.1</strong> a number of years work experience is specified, must have had a minimum of that number of years work experience; and<br /> <br /> <strong>12.1.2.2</strong> it is expressed that current or recent employment is required, must be currently or recently employed in an area of work approved by the faculty board as relevant to the course of study. </p> <p><br /> <strong> 13. Graduate Certificate in Accounting</strong></p> <p>In relation to the Graduate Certificate in Accounting the degree referred to in paragraph 12.1.1 must be a degree in a non - accounting discipline. </p> <p><br /> <strong> 14. Graduate Certificate in Asian Business</strong></p> <p>In selecting applicants for admission to candidature for the Graduate Certificate in Asian Business preference may be given to applicants who have a background in Asian studies or in business, economics or commerce. </p> <p><br /> <strong> 15 Graduate Certificate of Business</strong></p> <p>In addition to the admission requirements of section 12, an applicant for admission to candidature for the Graduate Certificate of Business must provide an employer's reference that satisfies the faculty board of the applicant's suitability for admission to candidature. </p> <p><br /> <strong> 16. Graduate Certificate in International Business</strong></p> <p>In selecting applicants for admission to candidature for the Graduate Certificate in International Business preference may be given to applicants who have a background in business, economics, commerce or law. </p> <p><br /> <strong> 17.
