Masters Degrees by Research


1.
In these regulations “degree” means the degree of Master of Engineering or the degree of Master of Engineering Science (Research) or both, as the case requires.


2. Master of Engineering

An applicant for admission to candidature for the degree of Master of Engineering must have -

2.1 qualified in the university -

2.1.1 not less than three years previously for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering with honours; or

2.1.2 not less than four years previously for the pass degree of Bachelor of Engineering; or

2.2 other qualifications or experience which the faculty board is satisfied are equivalent or a satisfactory substitute -

and must, to the satisfaction of the faculty board, have a well established professional association with the faculty.

3. Master of Engineering Science (Research)

An applicant for admission to candidature for the degree of Master of Engineering Science (Research) must have –

3.1 qualified in the university for the Bachelor of Engineering with honours I, IIA or IIB or have other qualifications which the faculty board is satisfied are equivalent or a satisfactory substitute; or

3.2 satisfactorily completed a Master of Engineering Science (Research) preliminary program prescribed by the faculty board.

4. Time limits

4.1 Subject to this section, the minimum period of candidature for the degree of Master of Engineering Science (Research) is 18 months full-time or 36 months part-time.

4.2 In relation to the time limits prescribed for a degree, the faculty board may, in any particular case in circumstances it deems exceptional -

4.2.1 extend the maximum period by up to 6 months in the case of full-time, or 12 months in the case of part-time, candidature; or

4.2.2 reduce the minimum period by up to 6 months.
