1. The degree The Degree of Master of Rural Health (MRH) shall be awarded in one grade only.
'candidate' means a candidate for the degree; 'course of study' means the total amount of academic and practical work required to be completed by a candidate to qualify for the degree; 'degree' means the degree of Master of Rural Health; 'faculty board' means the faculty board of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences; 'faculty information handout' means a faculty handbook or such other publication, whether in bound, loose leaf or electronic form, concerning the course of study as the faculty board determines from time to time; 'head' means the head of the Centre for Rural Health; 'project' means the advanced clinical practice project in the course of study, as determined by the faculty board; 'thesis' means the minor thesis in the course of study, as determined by the faculty board.
3.1.1 have qualified for a bachelors degree with honours or hold a qualification deemed equivalent by the faculty board; 3.1.2 have at least two years post-graduate clinical experience; and 3.1.3 be working in, or preparing to work in, a rural area. 3.2 The faculty board shall not admit a person to candidature for the degree unless the board is satisfied, on the advice of the head, that adequate facilities and supervision are available.
4. The course of study - 5.1 The faculty board may determine from time to time the subjects,
compulsory and elective, and the minor thesis or advanced clinical practice
project constituting the course of study and in relation to those subjects,
thesis and project may determine any matter including, but not limited to, requirements
concerning - 6. The thesis or project shall be carried out by a candidate under supervision and shall demonstrate independence of thought and an ability to carry out research in the field concerned. 7.1 The faculty board shall, after consultation with the head, appoint
a supervisor and if necessary a co-supervisor for each candidate.
8.1.1 after taking into account any recommendations from the head and the supervisor and any co-supervisor; and 8.1.2 giving the candidate an opportunity to be heard - may terminate the candidature on the grounds of unsatisfactory performance.
9.2 Credit under this section must not be granted in respect of - 9.2.1 work completed more than ten years before admission to candidature, unless the faculty board in any particular case otherwise determines; 9.2.2 more than one quarter of the subject work in the course of study; or 9.2.3 the thesis or project work in the course of study.
11.2 Where the faculty board considers that a candidate has, since first enrolling for the degree, been unreasonably adversely affected by any change in the regulations or course of study requirements, the faculty board may permit the candidate to qualify for the degree under the regulations or course of study requirements in force or published at some time during candidature, provided the board is satisfied that the work so required to be completed is equivalent to that currently required to complete the course of study. |
