Graduate Diploma in Clinical Epidemiology


1. There shall be a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Epidemiology (GradDipClinEpi) which shall be awarded in one grade only.

2. In these regulations:

'the board' means the faculty board of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences;

'the head' means the head of the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine; and

'the diploma' means the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Epidemiology.

3. An applicant for admission to candidature shall apply in writing to the registrar.

4. An applicant for admission to candidature for the diploma shall:

4.1
be a graduate with or qualified for the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in this university not less than two years previously; or

4.2
have qualifications which, in the opinion of the faculty board, are equivalent to or are a satisfactory substitute for the qualifications prescribed in subsection 4.1; and

4.3
have at least two years postgraduate experience in a health-related field.

5. Subject to Statute 6.2 - Exclusion for unsatisfactory progress, the faculty board may review the academic progress of a candidate and, after taking into account any recommendations from the head, and after giving the candidate an opportunity to be heard, may terminate the candidature on the grounds of unsatisfactory progress.

6. Except where the faculty board permits otherwise, the course of study for the diploma shall be one academic year for full-time candidates, and two academic years for part-time candidates.

7. A candidate shall complete such courses of study as are prescribed from time to time by the faculty board on the recommendation of the head.

8. Assessment for the diploma shall be by written examination and written assessment.

9. A candidate shall comply with these regulations as from time to time amended or remade provided that where the faculty board is of the opinion that any candidate for the diploma has been adversely affected by a change in the regulations since the candidate first enrolled as a candidate for the diploma the faculty board may act to remove the adverse effects on the candidate by permitting him or her to qualify for the diploma under these regulations as if they were in force without the particular change or changes which adversely affected the candidate.
