Message from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research)Monash University is one of Australia's premier research universities and is unique in that it has multiple campuses both nationally and internationally. In today's research climate, having an international dimension gives Monash the opportunity to build strategic alliances with leading international institutions and research programs for the pursuit of knowledge and solutions for issues of global significance. Monash researchers receive substantial funding from competitive and non-competitive sources which supports world-class research across a diverse range of disciplines -- from nanotechnology, advanced materials and manufacturing; stem cell biology and regenerative medicine; to environmental sustainability and e-Research. Research at Monash continues to have significant impact within the community, for example in the areas of assisted reproductive technologies, drug and vaccine discovery and development, and injury prevention and road safety. The university has further strengthened its outstanding research profile by the recruitment of eminent researchers and their research teams through the Australian Research Council Federation Fellowship scheme. Monash is committed to being a great research-intensive university which fosters an environment of excellence in research, leadership and research training. As set out in the long term vision of Monash 2025, the strategic directions of the University encourages and supports innovative multi-disciplinary research which addresses national and international priorities. The development and maintenance of an excellent research infrastructure capability which meets the needs of researchers and research students will continue to be a priority for Monash. We will also continue to invest in, and foster, a research environment that supports high calibre researchers in the areas of our emerging and established research strengths. Monash has a strong reputation for the training and development of future research leaders for the public and private sectors. Over the coming years we will increase our focus on advanced research training programs which will equip future research leaders with the necessary skills to deal with problems of the 21st century. I invite you to browse through the Research at Monash website to find out more about the exciting research that is in progress at Monash University. Professor Edwina Cornish See also:
