Clayton Innovation Cluster

As Australia’s largest, most international and forward thinking university, we are delivering on the Government’s economic development priorities with a vision for a thriving Clayton Innovation Cluster that will contribute to innovation and economic development within Victoria.

Driving the collaboration of our centres, platforms and facilities with key government and industry players, we enable the state-of-the-art research and development ecosystem known as the Clayton Innovation Cluster to deliver just that.

Priority sectors

At the centre of Melbourne’s population growth corridor, the cluster of innovators is located predominantly in and surrounding our Clayton campus. It provides access to leading enterprise, infrastructure and dedicated capability that underpins the economic performance of priority sectors within the local area, such as:

  • Construction Technology
  • Digital Technology
  • Defence Technology
  • International Education
  • Medical Technology
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Food and Fibre
  • Logistics and Transport

It is enterprise and research at its best, where researchers, innovators and scientists can collaborate, commercialise, and transform their research into tangible solutions that can enhance the Government’s priority sectors. The Clayton Innovation Cluster will also improve access to new markets, provide opportunities for sharing new knowledge, create jobs in key industries and attract global investment.

A hive of innovation

At the coalface of this collaborative, one-of-a-kind cluster are leading facilities such as the Australian Synchrotron (ANSTO); 27 research and development (ISO 9001 certified) research technology platforms such as Biomedical imaging and MASSIVE High Performance Computing; and world leading Centres such as the CSIRO and the Food Innovation Centre.

The Victorian Heart Hospital

The Victorian government will build the Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH) on Monash’s Clayton campus. The VHH will be an Australian-first heart hospital, bringing together the world’s best in cardiovascular care, research and training.

The VHH will be an iconic, purpose-built centre of excellence that will enable the integration of clinical and scientific resources and expertise as well as modern technology. It will facilitate and drive world-class novel and innovative clinical and basic research, advanced models of education and clinical training, to create a new cardiovascular care paradigm accelerating the translation of major discoveries into timely and meaningful outcomes.

The combination of the human capital, industry and academic collaborative partnerships and research infrastructure within the Clayton Innovation Cluster (Australia’s most diverse, adaptive, creative and innovative cluster) is driving innovation and economic growth on a local, national and international scale.
