About the Initiative

The Australian Bushfire Arson Prevention Initiative was established in mid-2009 with seed funding from RACV Insurance. It is lead jointly by the Monash Sustainability Institute (MSI) and the Monash Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science (CFBS) in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, and Bond University in the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Aims

The Initiative aims to advance national action on bushfire arson prevention by initiating and co-ordinating projects to:

  1. Identify and address gaps in the information needed to better inform legal and policy decisions relating to the management of bushfire arson
  2. Design and test prevention measures, with a view to facilitating their national roll-out
  3. Link key national and international stakeholders - including researchers, practitioners, emergency personnel, legal representatives, government and the community
