Green Steps ProgramGreen Steps is an innovative sustainability training and consultancy program, run by the Monash Sustainability Institute in partnership with the Greenhouse Challenge Plus program (Commonwealth Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts). Through a combination of training and work-based placements and projects, the program explores environmental and sustainability issues and equips participants with the tools and confidence to be effective change agents working within organisations towards sustainability. Green Steps is a challenging and rewarding program that brings together people passionate about creating positive environmental change. Running since 2000, the program has a growing national alumni of over 350 people and is delivered in most Australian states. The Green Steps program is currently offered to tertiary students through host universities located in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth. The program was created by and for university students and aims to bridge the gap between knowledge acquired at university and skills required in the environment sector. In response to strong demand, a Green Steps for Professionals program is now being offered to people already in the workforce who wish to expand their knowledge of environmental issues, gain new skills and work to bring about change in their own workplace and beyond. Green Steps has proven to be a valuable platform for many of its graduates. Read about the exciting career moves of former Green Steppers here. Work placements are a central component of the Green Steps program and are of mutual benefit to Green Steppers and their host organisations. Find examples of projects and consultancies undertaken by Green Steppers and further information for potential placement hosts here. The quality of the Green Steps program owes much to its committed and highly skilled trainers. They come from diverse backgrounds but share a passion for the course and what it has to offer.
