Biosafety Officer
Responsibilities of a Biosafety Officer include:
-
providing advice and information on gene technology matters at the local level
-
providing advice and information on the use, storage, transport and disposal of biological substances at the local level
-
assisting with risk management of hazards and risks associated with biological substances
-
providing assistance to the safety officer in the initial response to, and investigation of accidents and emergencies involving biological substances
-
liaising with the university OGTR Compliance Officer, OHSE, the zone OHSE committee and the head of unit or controlled entity
-
reporting breaches of compliance to Institutional Biosafety Committee and Occupational Health and Safety
-
assisting with the promotion of biological safety awareness
A Biosafety Officer may be requested to hold a position on the Institutional Biosafety Committee on a rotational basis.
