Dealings involving an Intentional Release (DIR)

What is DIR?

DIR include high risk projects involving an intentional release of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) into the environment.  These can range from small scale field trials (limited and controlled releases) of GMOs to general/commercial release of GMOs.

These dealings must be licensed by the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR). Currently there are no DIRs at Monash.

If your research is likely to involve release of GMOs into the environment, please contact the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) Secretary to discuss the requirements.
