Terms and Conditions

Enrolment Policy

Full payment is required upon enrolment into the Learn to Swim Program to confirm your Learn to Swim Lesson. A $15.00 Welcome Pack applies to all new enrolments (or Learn to Swim participants not enrolled into the previous term).

New enrolments will not be accepted in the last two weeks of each term.

Re-enrolment Periods

Learn to Swim participants will automatically be enrolled into the following term during the re-enrolment period in the last two weeks of each term. Enrolments for the following term will be cancelled if full payment has not been received by the end of the re-enrolment period.

Re-enrolments for the subsequent term, made after the re-enrolment period will incur a $15.00 administration fee.


Discounts will not apply to enrolments made with any other promotional offer. Only one discount is available per Learn to Swim participant. Proof of entitlements must be cited at the time of payment to receive any discount.

  • A 5% discount is available on lessons for families with 3 or more family members enrolled in the term. 
  • A 5 % discount is available for pension/concession card holders with the Learn to Swim participants name on the card.
  • Current Monash University students receive a 15% discount on lessons. 
  • A 50% discount applies to the second or subsequent Learn to Swim lesson the Learn to Swim participant is enrolled into, per term.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations from the Learn to Swim Program will only be accepted with a Medical Certificate.

Refund/Credit Policy

An application for credit/refund form must be completed for a credit/refund to be considered. Monash Sport reserves the right to accept or decline the application for refund/credit.

Approved credit/refunds incur an administration fee equal to the cost of two Learn to Swim lessons. Approved credits are valid for a 12 month period. Approved credits are non transferable to other Learn to Swim participants.

Notification of Absence Policy

A make-up lesson (a maximum of two per term) will be granted with 24 hours advanced notice to Monash Sport when a participant is unable to attend a lesson.

If 24 hours advanced notice is not received, a medical certificate is required for additional make up lessons to be
considered. There are no refunds/credits for any missed lessons.

Complimentary Make Up Lessons Policy

Make-up lessons are not available in the first two weeks of term, to allow for new enrolments. A maximum of two makeup lessons will be available each term with compliance of the Monash Sport Notification of Absence Policy.

Make-up lessons must be used in the current term. At the completion of each term, all unused make up lessons on the file will be removed.

Make-up lessons are subject to class availability. Every effort will be made to find a suitable time for a make- up lessons, however Monash Sport cannot guarantee the availability of make-up lessons. Permanent enrolments for the term will take precedence over participants enrolled into make-up lessons.

Watch Around Water Policy

All parents/guardians with children in the Learn to Swim program must comply with the Monash Sport ‘Watch Around
Water’ Policy.

All children under 10 years must be actively supervised by a parent or guardian at all times, before, during and after
their Learn to Swim lesson.

All children under 5 years must have parent/guardian on pool side during their Learn to Swim lesson. If the child
under 5 is in the water before or after the lesson, the parent must also be in the water.

Complimentary Practice Swim Policy

For all enrolled and fully paid Learn to Swim participants, Monash Sport offers complimentary practice swimming at any time within standard opening hours. Practice swims only apply to enrolled participants. Accompanying parent/guardian and family are required to pay pool entry fees.

Complimentary Parent/Guardian Standard Entry Policy 

A complimentary standard entry to the Doug Ellis Pool is provided to one parent/guardian on entry with the Learn to Swim participant on their lesson day.

The parent/guardian must comply with the Monash Sport ‘Watch Around Water’ policy and therefore must not compromise supervision standards to undertake activities in the aquatic area.

Learn to Swim Card Policy

The Learn to Swim participant will be given a Learn to Swim card on enrolment into the Learn to Swim program. The participant must present the Learn to Swim card at the Aquatics Service desk on the lesson day, including a make-up lesson day, or when undertaking a practice swim.

Lost Learn to Swim Cards will need to be replaced at a fee of $5.00.

Conditions of Entry Policy

The Conditions of Entry of the Doug Ellis Swimming Pool must be observed and adhered at all times. The conditions of entry are displayed opposite the Aquatics service desk at the front entrance to the Doug Ellis Swimming Pool.

Monash Sport can refuse entry to anyone, including Learn to Swim participants. If you act unreasonable or break the terms and conditions of this agreement, or are in breach of the Conditions of Entry applicable to this venue, we may warn you that you risk having your lesson cancelled. If you continue to behave in the same way, we may cancel your lesson immediately.

Monash Sport will cancel your lesson without warning(immediately) if you behave in a manner that is considered a risk to other members and staff, or deemed seriously inappropriate, such as (but not limited to):

  • Threatening or harassing others
  • Damaging equipment
  • Providing instruction to other members where you are not authorised by Monash Sport to do so

Terms and Conditions Policy

The most up-to-date terms and conditions always apply. By re-enrolling into subsequent terms, you agree to the current terms and conditions that apply at that time. You can find copies of the most up-to-date terms and conditions at the Aquatics Service Desk.

Monash Sport reserves the right to change the terms and conditions of this Learn to Swim program from time-totime including but not limited to, Conditions of Entry, learn to swim conditions, operating hours, facility and equipment availability, services and various fees. In the event of changes to any of these conditions, we will notify you of such changes by one or some of the following:

  • Published in our newsletter, or
  • Posting a notice in our Venue, or
  • Writing to the address you last gave us (e-mail or mail), or
  • Contacting you by phone, or
  • Advising on our website.

If information contained within this agreement differs from information that is verbally communicated to you by a Monash Sport employee whether in person at one of our campuses, or over the phone, the terms and conditions outlined in this agreement will apply (or the most up-to-date version), unless written confirmation is received to the contrary from a Monash Sport employee.
