Monash Abroad travel grants

Most students who are accepted on an Intercampus Exchange Program receive a Monash Abroad travel grant

Students from the Australian and South African campuses receive one grant whether studying for one or two consecutive semesters of intercampus exchange. Students from the Malaysia campus receive travel grants for intercampus exchange to South Africa but no grants for going to Australia.

We recommend that you seek clarification from your campus exchange office or the Monash Abroad office and Coordinators who can advise on your individual and program circumstances. Monash abroad travel grants and other financial support are always subject to change. Grants set in previous semesters and years should only be used as a guide to future Monash Abroad grants and may change - along with eligibility criteria from time to time. As part of your application process we encourage you to stay in regular communication with your Coordinator and regularly check the Monash abroad website to ensure the information you are receiving is accurate. The information is correct at the time of publication.

Exceptions

A small number of students who go on intercampus exchange are not eligible for Monash Abroad travel grants, usually because they are receiving other financial assistance.   The exceptions include:

  • Students who receive other significant financial assistance for their intercampus exchange from Monash University or external organisations. These will be assessed on a case by case basis.
  • Students who are citizens of the country to which they are going.  (They will not normally be accepted to participate in the intercampus exchange program.)
  • Students who do two consecutive overseas programs will receive one travel grant at the higher applicable rate. (with exception to Monash Sunway students who will receive a second grant for a consecutive overseas study program, granted that the destination is not Australia)

Students who receive OS-HELP loansMonash Travel Equity scholarships, Monash student loans or Centrelink payments are still eligible for the normal Monash Abroad travel grant.

Payment of grants

Intercampus exchange students going to or from an Australian campus will have their grant paid into their Australian bank account. For Monash Australia students going to Malaysia or South Africa this will usually be about 4 weeks before the intercampus exchange commences. For Monash South Africa students coming to Australia or Malaysia, the grant will be paid as the student has arrived in Australia or Malaysia and opened a local bank account. (Students will be given help with this during orientation).

For Monash Malaysia students going to South Africa campus, Monash Sunway will arrange payment into your local bank account about 4 weeks before your intercampus exchange commences.
