Visa UK visa rules no longer allow Australian students to study in the UK without a visa or to obtain a visa on arrival. All students must apply for a visa before leaving Australia.
Exchange students should apply for a Student Visa whether they are going to the UK for one or two semesters as this includes limited work rights and can be extended. Visa applications cannot be lodged until the host university has provided a Visa Letter in the correct format.
Students going to the UK for short term progams of less than 6 months must apply for Student Visitor Visa which is valid for study up to 6 months but includes no work rights and cannot be extended. Applications can only be lodged in a student’s home country, which means international Monash students cannot apply for this type of visa in Australia. Students undertaking short study courses can no longer enter the UK on a standard visitor visa.
Check the British High Commission website (link above) for details.
