Making friends

Building up a network of friends will make your time at Monash University much more enjoyable. The environment at Monash is very friendly and social. There are many ways in which you can meet new people, both in and out of the classroom: 

  • Invite other students from your tutorials for coffee or lunch and discuss the weekly topic, readings or the assignments
  • Form a study group
  • Join one of the many clubs and societies on-campus

International Student Support Unit

Monash University International Student Support have experienced and qualified staff to assist you with information and advice about a wide range of issues including settling into life in Australia, cultural adjustment, your student visa, health care, and finding your way around Monash University.

International Student Friendship Program

The International Student Friendship Program program provides social and practical support for international students by establishing friendships and cultural exchange by introducing international students to local volunteers and their families.

Clubs and societies

Sport at Monash

If you play sport or would like to learn, you can join an on-campus sports club. Each Monash University campus has a variety of sporting facilities and clubs for students.

Student organisations

Getting involved with the international student organisation on your campus will introduce you to many other international students. Student organisations are always looking for volunteers to help organise and run various events and social activities throughout the year.

Hobbies

Developing a hobby can also be a good way to meet new friends. The  Monash Short Course Centre, runs a range of interesting courses, such as dancing, photography, ceramics and computer courses. There are discount rates for Monash students.
