Approval of accommodation and welfare arrangements

This information applies if you want to obtain initial approval of accommodation and welfare arrangements. If you need to change your arrangements, visit the 'Change your accommodation and welfare arrangements' webpage.

Visa condition

• Visa condition 8532 requires students (other than AusAID students) under 18 years old to maintain their accommodation, support and welfare arrangements as provided at time of visa grant.
• If a student wishes to change their arrangements they must seek prior approval from their education provider.

Monash requirements

• Only arrangements that are 'Acceptable Accommodation and Welfare Arrangements' will be approved.
• Arrangements cannot be approved until all the necessary documentation has been provided. The 'How to obtain approval for your arrangement' section below provides information on the documentation you need.

How to obtain approval for your arrangement

• Select your preferred arrangement and follow the steps outlined in the checklist provided:
  • Parent, custodian or eligible relative
  • Using a Monash-approved care-giver service
  • A non-relative (close family friend) or cousin
• If your arrangement is a Monash-approved arrangement, Monash will issue the Confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation and Welfare (CAAW) arrangements form which must be included in your application for a student visa.
