A paramedical push

A paramedical push

1998

The government decided to move emergency health courses out of the Ambulance Officers’ Training Centre and into the university sector. Monash’s Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences was granted the government contract to establish the new training program.

Like Monash’s other vocational courses such as Medicine and Law, the staff in the Department of Community Emergency Health and Paramedic Practice (DCEHPP) created a program that included both classroom and community-based learning. Today, Monash’s program is recognised as one of the leading educational courses in emergency medicine in the world. The Department works closely with its industry partners, including Ambulance Victoria and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade.

Monash becomes the first university to offer specialist paramedical training
