Cultural safety program
A short 20 minute online program is available online through Moodle. This gives students an opportunity to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture, and links to further reading.
A workplace free of harassment and that accepts everyone's cultural identity is an important part of making Indigenous students and staff feel welcome at Monash.
Cultural safety is an important part of Monash University's strategy to increase attraction and retention of Indigenous students and staff. Our workshop provides an opportunity for staff to learn about Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait culture in a half-day session which promotes interactivity and discussion of issues.
Our facilitator, Rueben Berg, provides a safe place for participants to learn about issues affecting Indigenous peoples, and also to find answers to questions they may have been hesitant to ask.
As a proud Gunditjmara man, Rueben Berg is committed to using his skills and expertise to improve the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Rueben is experienced in working in the Indigenous and non-Indigenous arena and has developed and refined his skills and expertise through his professional experiences in program managing government programs, his Indigenous perspective on architecture and his role as a facilitator. Rueben has extensive leadership and capacity development experience and is committed to improving the lives of Indigenous Australians. Rueben is a founder and director of RJHB Consulting, the Indigenous Ultimate Association and Indigenous Architecture Victoria.
To register for this free workshop, please go to the Staff Development website. A Level 2 program is also available for those who have completed the introductory program also at the Staff Development website.
