What is your role as Course Director?

I’m the Course Director for the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) based at Peninsula Campus. My job is to look after the administration of the degree and to ensure that the quality of the course is maintained and that students have the best education experience possible.

What top tips would you give first year students to have a successful year at Monash?

One of the greatest challenges faced by many first year students is to adopt a disciplined approach to their studies. A great education is available in all our Monash courses but sometimes it takes a while for students to fully understand how to get the most out of the opportunities at university.

Another very important opportunity missed by many is the development of strong and diverse social networks, as well as extra-curricular activities that can help build these and can enhance your study experience and your professional development. Many of our units are providing students the opportunity to connect virtually and I strongly encourage all students to take full advantage of this until we can see each other face-to-face again.

What's your favourite hobby?

I don’t really have a hobby but I do a number of things to relax at different times. My family is always an important part of the way I relax. I sometimes garden, exercise or even renovate to relax at different times. I also love cooking but I don’t really have a hobby I like to do all the time (except watch football – go Tiges!).

How can students reach out to you if they would like to connect with you?

I am contactable via email (pieter.vandijk@monash.edu) and if students would like a phone call or Zoom meeting to talk I will be more than happy to arrange a time. These opportunities are even more important in the current situation.
