Horizons leadership program

The Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI) Policy and Impact team is helping to break the cycle of disadvantage by building leadership skills in young people from Melbourne suburbs with the lowest socioeconomic status.

In 2022, with funding from Monash University Foundation, the Horizons pilot team consulted with three schools in Frankston and Peninsula to identify students aged 14-15 who might benefit most from the program. The Horizons program consisted of an initial workshop, a four-day residential camp, and two further workshops to ‘land’ the experience. The sessions provided a space to allow participants to reflect on what they care about and identify the next steps to get closer to their aspirations.
