The new Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Framework 2022-2030 is the centrepiece of Monash’s strategic governance on equity, diversity and inclusion, aimed at advancing the ‘Inclusive’ goal of Monash’s strategic plan, Impact 2030.

Plans to enable, monitor and evaluate goals in the Framework will be developed and embedded with tangible, pragmatic actions that create accountabilities across all facets of the University and timeframes for completion. There will also be methods for assessing the impact of these actions, overseen by the EDI Committee, so that proceeding plans can be adapted to ensure maximum change is achieved.

Monash launched its four-year Gender Equality Action Plan in 2022. The Action Plan was the outcome of extensive research and consultation, including a wide-ranging gender audit of Monash workplaces.

The Gender Equality Action Plan outlines measurable actions across seven priority areas:

  1. Recruitment
  2. Career progression
  3. Promotion and development
  4. Gender composition at all levels of our workforce
  5. Gendered work segregation
  6. Workplace support, leave and work flexibility
  7. Workplace culture, leadership and diversity
  8. Gender pay equity.

Implementation of the Gender Equality Action Plan is overseen by the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and led by the Athena Swan Steering Committee and Monash HR.

The Respect at Monash initiative focuses on the prevention of harmful behaviours including sexual harm and gender-based violence at Monash University.

In 2022, Monash developed and launched the National Student Safety Survey (NSSS) Action Plan 2022-2023, which drives the University’s evidence-based actions in preventing sexual harm and gender-based violence. This document was developed after extensive consultations with the Monash community following the release of the NSSS national survey results in March 2022. Work commenced in September 2022 and by the end of 2022 13 action items across the four priority areas were complete and 56 were underway.
