Academic Vice-President, Monash and Warwick Universities - Professor Andrew Coats
Professor Andrew Coats is Director of the Monash Warwick Alliance and Academic Vice-President, Monash and Warwick Universities.
Andrew attended Melbourne Grammar School and studied at Oxford and Cambridge. He has a higher doctorates from Oxford (DM) and Imperial (DSc.). Andrew was appointed Viscount Royston Professor of Cardiology at Imperial College in 1996 and Director of Cardiology and Associate Medical Director of the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS trust. Andrew was appointed Dean of Medicine at the University of Sydney in 2002, and subsequently Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Andrew was most recently CEO of the Norwich Research Park, the UK's oldest and largest research and innovation park.
He holds fellowships of the Royal College of Physicians of London, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the European Society of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. Andrew served as chairman of the NSW Ministerial Advisory Committee on Medical and Health Research (MACMHR) and the Australian Health Information Council (AHIC).
Andrew has published two theses, 15 Government reports, 10 text books, two Cochrane reviews, over 500 peer-reviewed full papers and has more than 49,000 career citations, and a personal H-index of 101 (ISI Web of Science, 31/1/2014). He has been Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Cardiology since 1999 and has received the Linacre Medal of the Royal College of Physicians and the inaugural Michael L Pollock award of the American Heart Association.
Andrew's research interests are in chronic heart failure, hypertension, and organizational behaviour. Andrew has a MBA from London Business School, is a Diplomate and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and member of the UK Institute of Directors. He has over 60 board years of experience in the biotechnology, education and research sectors. Andrew has multiple patents and co-founded PsiOxus therapeutics (formerly Myotec).
