Support for staff affirming their gender at Monash

The gender affirmation or transition process is different for everyone but it may involve you changing your name, title, appearance, dress, use of pronouns and other aspects of yourself to align with your affirmed gender. We can provide practical advice on changing your personal details as well as offer support through the affirmation process.

If you choose to disclose your intention to affirm your gender and would like to discuss a gender affirmation plan, you can do so with assistance from:

  • your supervisor; or
  • your HR Business Partner; or
  • Staff Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Monash HR.

We support staff affirming their gender at work through our Gender affirmation procedure.

Support for managers and colleagues of staff affirming their gender at Monash

We also have a process for supporting managers of staff who are affirming their gender at work. We can collaboratively work with you to ensure you feel equipped to support the affirmation process and can work with you and your staff member to develop an affirmation plan around:

  • Change of personal details (i.e. name, title, pronouns, email address)
  • How the affirmation will be communicated with the broader team
  • Training for colleagues (in consultation with the affirming staff member)
  • Avenues for support
  • Leave and work adjustments

We can also provide support to colleagues of the affirming staff member. This may be in the form of advice, resources and training in how best they can support their team member.
