Give Give Respect Art Competition

About the competition

Together we can create thriving communities. The Give Respect Creative Competition is your opportunity to help build a more respectful and equitable Monash community.

The competition runs biannually, and is an opportunity for our community to reflect on the principles and values that underpin equity, diversity and inclusion at Monash.

Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of observing the creativity of our community and its thought-provoking artwork. We are excited to relaunch the competition with this years theme of:

‘Respectful relationships’

All relationships - whether they be with romantic or sexual partners, friendships, or relationships with family - should be grounded in respect.

We encourage Monash students and staff from our Australian campuses to submit an original piece of creative art that relates to this year’s theme, to explore how we can respect ourselves and others in the relationships we engage in.

Your entry could be audio/visual art, such as a painting, drawing, podcast or photograph, or a written work, such as a poem or short story – anything that reflects how we foster respectful relationships.

Submissions are open from Monday 17 March 2024 and submissions close on Friday 4 April 2024.

How to enter

Digital and online submissions can be submitted via email to edi@monash.edu, by sharing a Google Drive link to the file (please ensure sharing permissions allow edit access).

Physical submissions can be delivered to the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion office in Campus Centre at Clayton campus. To arrange a drop-off time, please book an appointment via Google Calendar.

All submissions will require a statement from the artist (max 200 words) explaining how your creative piece is aligned with the theme of ‘Respectful relationships’.

Entrants will be contacted via email regarding the progression of their submission.

How is it judged

Our judges are looking for unique pieces of work that convey a strong connection to equity, diversity and/or inclusion themes. The judging panel will be scoring submissions based on the following criteria:

  • How the creative piece is aligned to this years theme
  • How the artwork evokes thought about equity, diversity, and/or inclusion
  • How the artwork enhances community knowledge about equity, diversity, and/or inclusion
