Smoking policy - Monash Residential Services
Monash University upholds the right of an individual to work or study in a smoke free environment. Under the Tobacco Act 1987 (Vic), it is an offence for persons to smoke in an enclosed work space.

Smoking is banned in all areas of Monash University, except designated smoking points for Monash Residential Services residents only. They are displayed on this map. These smoking areas contain bins and smoking poles and are clearly identifiable.
In addition certain items are banned under the conditions of residency as outlined below:
Items including but not limited to the three examples shown below are examples of smoking apparatus that are banned from ALL residential areas2. All such products and derivatives are banned and are not permitted to be brought onto any and all residential areas2.
1 Monash University buildings include all buildings including those owned, controlled and managed by a subsidiary or affiliate of the university.
2 All residential areas include all Monash University owned and or managed residential buildings including those owned, controlled and managed by a subsidiary or affiliate of the university.
