Orientation semester 2 - 2019
Monash Residential Services warmly welcomed more than 450 new residents, from over 43 countries, to our diverse and inclusive community for Semester Two. Throughout July, our Residential Support Teams delivered a wide range of programs to ensure that our new students quickly felt at home and were presented with plenty of opportunities to make new friends.
Within their hall communities, residents enjoyed a range of events. These included welcome dinners, trivia nights, sports tournaments, movie nights, and many more activities. Residents also had opportunities to join events with the wider Monash Residential Services community. These included a Laser Tag and Arcade Night, trips to IKEA, Bounce Trampoline Park, and a day trip to the Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary. Throughout the orientation, residents were invited to enjoy meals at our very own Halls Cafe.
Orientation is undoubtedly the most important period for new residents living on campus as it provides the opportunity to become familiar with new surroundings, create friendships and learn the community values. Our ResStart website and presentations supports new students for a smooth transition to living away from home by providing the information necessary to move-in, settle-in and thrive within the Monash Residential Services community. All new residents are offered the opportunity to learn about community expectations around safe and respectful relationships, and about our approach to alcohol within the MRS community.
Our aim throughout orientation is that all residents join Monash Residential Services with an understanding of community expectations, plenty of opportunities to form new friendships, and a strong sense of belonging within their community.
