Mr James Hawkins

James Hawkins has over 20 years of principal investing, investment banking and corporate advisory experience in Melbourne and New York at L1 Capital, Flagstaff Partners and Macquarie Group.

James is currently Partner and Head of the L1 Capital Catalyst Fund.

L1 Capital Catalyst Fund is a high conviction, activist fund that seeks to deliver positive catalysts that unlock major share price upside for investors.

Prior to joining L1 Capital in 2021 James spent nearly ten years at Flagstaff Partners.

At Flagstaff Partners, he was a Managing Director that originated and executed M&A, equity and debt transactions.

Before joining Flagstaff Partners, James worked at Macquarie Capital in Melbourne and New York where he was involved in a wide range of principal investments and investment banking transactions.

James began his career as a solicitor at Clayton Utz, specialising in project finance, mergers and acquisitions and equity capital markets.

James is a generalist with experience covering a range of sectors including industrials, gaming, infrastructure, retail, education, mining services and financial services.

James is on the advisory boards of Plexus, a provider of technology based legal services and Urban Property Australia, a leading adviser in property investment and development.

James has a close affinity with Monash University. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Major in Finance), lived on campus at Mannix College during his first two years at university and is a Life Member of the Monash Blues Football Club, having played nearly 200 games of football during and after attending university.

James is a long-time donor to the Monash Blues Football Club and the Faculty of Law with a special interest in supporting students to reach their full potential.

Amongst other achievements, James is a Royal Humane Society of Australasia Bronze Medal Bravery Award recipient.
