Ms Pitsa Binnion
Mrs Pitsa Binnion is the Principal of McKinnon Secondary College, a consistently high-performing 7-12 co-educational, non-selective Government School in the South Eastern Region of Victoria.
Mrs Binnion began her career with the Department of Education 35 years ago and has extensive leadership experience. She was appointed to McKinnon in 1997 as a Leading Teacher, Assistant Principal in 2000 and Principal in 2008 and has represented the Department on numerous occasions and served on selection panels for Principals and Regional representatives.
Mrs Binnion is also an active participant as a Principal representative on the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority (VCAA) Reference Group, a Member of Expert Principal’s Advisory Group (EPAG) and a member of Differentiated Support for School Improvement Group (DSSI) with Dr Jim Watterston from The University of Melbourne.
Mrs Binnion is the President of the South Eastern Regional Victorian Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP), Committee Member of Victorian Association of Secondary Schools Principals (VASSP), Executive Member of the Inner Secondary Principal Network, providing opportunities for professional development, collegiality and systemic improvement. She is also associated with the Bastow Institute and is a member of their Strategic Council and is often invited to be on interview selection panels and as a Peer on School Reviews. For a number of years, Mrs Binnion has given Bastow Masterclass presentations for the Graduate Certificate in Principal Preparation (Victoria).
In 2014 Mrs Binnion received the Australian Council of Educational Leaders (ACEL) Fellowship Award for her contribution to leadership development. In 2015, through her leadership and commitment to continuous improvement and improving student learning outcomes McKinnon Secondary College received Accreditation with the Council of International Schools (CIS), which has been awarded again in 2020.
In 2016 Mrs Binnion received the John Laing Award for Professional Development from the Principals Australia Institute and in 2018 ACEL presented her with the Hedley Beare Educator of the Year Award. Mrs Binnion was recently appointed a member of Monash University Council in 2021.
Mrs Binnion has a Bachelor of Arts and Diploma of Education from Monash University.
