Mr Gavin MacMillan
Gavin MacMillan is managing director of the Melbourne office of Ogilvy, the world’s largest marketing communications agency, where he leads a team of more than 100 advertising professionals working on an array of brands.
After graduating with a degree in business (marketing) from Monash, he moved to London and started his career at Young & Rubicam, working on its brand asset valuator. At the time, this was the world’s largest database on brand equity and consumer behaviour. In an industry renowned for its heavy reliance on qualitative research methods, Gavin brought a new, quantitative perspective with his data and advanced analytical skills, extracting brand and consumer insights that powered many renowned advertising campaigns.
Returning to Melbourne after a decade abroad, Gavin became strategy director at DDB, then head of strategy at Ogilvy. Today, his grasp of data, first learned at Monash, has become invaluable as he steers his organisation through substantial transformation, and into a world more data-informed and technology-enabled than ever.
Gavin’s brand and campaign strategies have driven strong returns on investment for many corporations, garnering international recognition including nine Cannes Lion awards. He and his team are responsible for building advertising and digital experience for many well-known Australian and international brands, including AAMI, Cadbury, BP, Hostplus superannuation and more.
