The passing of Dr Richard Harcourt
Last month we received the sad news of the death of Monash University’s first pHD graduate, Dr Richard Harcourt, who passed away aged 88 on 9 April 2020.
Dr Harcourt was one of the first students at Monash and enjoyed the early years at the Clayton campus, where he studied Chemistry. He was part of another Monash first – the University’s first cricket match in 1961 where he played against Vice-Chancellor Sir Louis Matheson (pictured below).
Dr Harcourt graduated with a PhD in Chemistry from Monash in 1963 (pictured), before going on to become a lecturer at the University of Melbourne for over 30 years. Over his career, he has published over 200 academic articles.
Monash University extends a sincere condolences to the Harcourt family during this difficult time.
