Celebrating our alumni mentors
A Monash education opens doors the world over for our graduates, but it’s also the connections made during their time at Monash that encourage learning and bring benefit for a lifetime.
Our mentoring programs help students forge connections and develop the skills that will allow them to be future leaders in their fields.
The Sir John Monash Mentoring Program allows alumni to make a difference in a student’s life and provide them with inspiration and support as they realise their career ambitions.
Thirty-three alumni mentors currently volunteer their time to contribute to the growth and learning of highly capable and engaged students who will become the next generation of Monash leaders.
Pictured are five mentor/mentee pairs from the 2017 Sir John Monash Mentoring Program. Two mentees share what the mentoring program means to them.
“I’ve really, really liked the honesty of my mentor. She’s been very real about her experiences in the industries and educational fields that she’s worked in, and the steps that she’s taken to get there which wouldn’t be immediately apparent. And also the emotional advice that comes with being in those sorts of industries and fields. I’ve really appreciated the actual person behind the qualifications.”
Mentee Tamara Ernest – Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts/Diploma of Languages
“It means that I get an opportunity to engage with an industry expert in the field that I’m studying in, in my case engineering. It’s obviously very insightful for me to learn from somebody who’s been through the system and has a bit of knowledge, and just to learn and get as much as I can from that.”
Mentee Jess Flicker – Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Science
