Mr Roger Gillespie OAM is the Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Bakers Delight, the largest national chain of bakeries in Australia with over 700 bakeries operating throughout Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA.
Mr Gillespie’s first job was in real estate management. In 1972 he began working in the family’s retail bakery business and in 1975 he started the Old Style Bread Centre chain of bakeries, later to become Brumby’s.
In May 1980, Mr Gillespie, together with his wife Mrs Lesley Gillespie OAM and another partner started Bakery Delight in Hawthorn, Victoria. Mr and Mrs Gillespie then went on to create Bakers Delight which is still very much a family business with Mr and Mrs Gillespie as co-CEO’s and their two children, Aaron who is working in the Canadian business called COBS Bread and Elise based in Melbourne working in the corporate office. Mr Gillespie, as Executive Chairman is heavily involved in the day-to-day running of the business and has a very hands-on approach, regularly visiting bakeries in all regions and assisting franchisees to run successful bakeries.
Bakers Delight is about creating an organisational culture that puts something back into the community, whether that’s through charitable donations or giving individuals the chance to pursue the dream of owning their own business. Bakers Delight is recognised as the leading corporate citizen in the country and has been a major corporate partner of the Breast Cancer Network Australia since 2000, raising more than $15 million over the past 15 years.
