  Global alumni leaders invited back to campus

The Vice-Chancellor hosted alumni from Australia and the world as part of the Global Leaders Network initiative on 14-15 September at the Clayton campus. The key aims of the Global Leaders network are to work with alumni to enhance the student experience, broaden the network for our alumni, and provide philanthropic and in-kind support to help with scholarship and research endeavours.   Monash welcomes ARWU ranking: 79th globally

Monash has welcomed the 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) report. It reveals we are ranked 79th in the world, up from 114 in 2015 and reflecting the value of Monash investment in world-class research infrastructure. Read more.

Reuters rates Monash as an innovation leader

Monash University has been included on the Reuters international rankings as Australia’s second most innovative university, timely recognition of the Monash commitment to industry engagement, research translation and recognition of the commercial value of our output.

  Monash contributes $3.9bn to the local economy

A newly commissioned study shows that Monash directly generates $3.9 billion in economic activity in Victoria each year. In fact, if Monash were an ASX-listed company with its $2 billion operating revenue, it would rank in the top 100.

Professor Mick Dodson AM appointed Professorial Fellow

Distinguished Monash alumnus and former Australian of the Year, Professor Mick Dodson AM, has been appointed a Vice-Chancellor's Professorial Fellow where he will provide leadership relating to Indigenous affairs. Read more .

Monash University and City of Monash set in Motion

Together they will host a week of sporting events from 18-25 September 2016 as part of Australia's inaugural City in Motion. Alumna and international snowboarding champion, Amanda Taylor, is the event ambassador. For an event list, see the Monash in Motion website.

  $45m investment in the performing arts at Monash University

Contributors to the $45 million Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts development include the Victorian Government ($10 million) and The Ian Potter Foundation ($5 million), and include a revitalised 586-seat Alexander Theatre. Read more.

  Monash success at Rio Olympics

Ten Monash alumni and current students represented Australia in the Rio Olympics across a diverse range of sports from archery, rowing and badminton to table tennis, shooting, athletics and taekwondo. Read more.

  Monash Global Leaders Network UK

Monash seeks an International Alumni Manager in the United Kingdom to strengthen its focus on the international alumni community, and provide opportunities for the betterment of our communities. Read more .

  Get involved in Run India

Monash alumna, Samantha Gash, is in the middle of a 76-day run across India. Sam will be running a total of 3800kms across the country as part of a World Vision Australia project to raise funds for children’s education. To learn about how you can get involved, click here.

  A gift of remembrance to Villers-Bretonneux

Alumnus Michael Headberry, Chair of the Monash Pioneers Sir John Monash Project Board, recently travelled to France’s Somme region and presented a selection of books from Monash University to the Musée Franco- Australien and L’École Victoria in Villers-Bretonneux. Read more .

  Castan Centre supports Indigenous inmates

Friday, 12 August marked the first day of The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Homework Group, the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law’s tailor-made new tutoring program supporting Indigenous Australians residing at Port Phillip Prison in Laverton. Read more .

2016 Art Music Awards citation for Paul Grabowsky
Monash University Academy of Performing Arts Executive Director, Professor Paul Grabowsky AO, and the Young Wägilak Group won the Jazz Work of the Year citation at the recent 2016 Art Music Awards. Professor Grabowsky and the Young Wägilak Group received the award for their project Nyilipidgi,                    the                    result                    of a collaboration spanning two decades between Professor Grabowsky and the Wilfred family, ceremonial musicians and lawmen from Ngukurr in South East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory.

Monash lands £4.2m grant toward Alzheimer’s research
September marked the start of Dementia Awareness Month in Australia with Monash announcing the award of a significant grant by The Wellcome Trust towards funding research into treatment for Alzhiemer's and other debilitating neurodegenerative diseases. The leading international medical research funding organisation awarded Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences researchers £4.2 million (AUD$7.1m).

Monash Professor to head Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research
Renowned biologist, Professor Steven Chown, has been elected President of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research which facilitates internationally significant research in and about Antarctica and the Southern Ocean.

Striving for equality - Monash alumna, Moana Weir, was named as the new Chair of Board of the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission. She has been an invaluable member of the Commission board since commencing as a director                    in                    March                    2015 and boasts more than 15 years of board experience as a company secretary and senior officer of a number of publicly listed Australian entities.
