The Honourable Justice Elizabeth Fullerton

Justice Fullerton graduated from Monash University, Melbourne in 1980 with an Arts degree – majoring in Political Science – before taking up residence in NSW and enrolling in Graduate Law at the University of New South Wales.  She graduated in 1983.

Upon graduation her Honour was admitted as a Barrister of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and commenced practice from Frederick Jordan Chambers in the Women Lawyer’s Room, then located in Macquarie Street.

In 1988 her Honour was appointed as the first in-house counsel in NSW for the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, and in 1989 she returned to the private Bar as an inaugural member and Director of Forbes Chambers.

She was appointed to Senior Counsel in 1999. Her Honour’s principal field of practice at the Bar was a trial advocate in Commonwealth and State criminal matters appearing for the prosecution in Commonwealth matters and for the accused in State and Commonwealth matters.

She appeared in all courts exercising criminal jurisdiction in NSW, including the Land and Environment Court, and also has appeared as trial counsel in the Supreme Courts of Western Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Her Honour appeared as appellate counsel in the Supreme Courts of NSW and the Northern Territory and in the High Court of Australia.

She advised generally across a range of inter-related fields of criminal and civil practice, inclusive of various Commonwealth regulatory bodies and has appeared as Senior Counsel assisting the New South Wales Coroner.

Her Honour advised and appeared in common law actions in the District and Supreme Courts, in particular actions for medical negligence.  She was also retained as Senior Counsel to act for and advise the New South Wales Crime Commission.  She has appeared in various disciplinary tribunals both for the practitioner and for professional bodies including the New South Wales Bar Association and the New South Wales Health Care Complaints Unit.

She was sworn in as a judge of the Supreme Court of NSW in February 2007.
