President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AO visits Indonesia

President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AO began her tour by visiting the Monash Indonesia Representative Office (MIRO), followed by a lunch with the newly-established Indonesian Global Leaders’ Network Advisory Committee (GLNAC). Monash alumni committee members will play a pivotal role in providing leadership, local market insights and networks to help the University build rich and vibrant alumni communities in Indonesia.

The VC warmly welcomed our new GLNAC members:

  • Mr Iwan Murty, CEO, Research and Business Consulting (Chair)
  • Mr Peter Chandra, Principal, Deal Advisory (Financial Services), KPMG
  • Ms Annette Anhar, Director, Tugu Group
  • Ms Yly Suardy, Legal Counsel, Lippo Group
  • Ms Andy Zain, Founder and Managing Partner, Kejora Ventures

During the VC’s visit, the Herb Feith Indonesia Engagement Centre held its third Herb Feith Dialogue series. Indonesia’s Minister of Finance, Dr Sri Mulyani Indrawati, shared her insights on women in leadership roles in Indonesia, and addressed the challenges that confront the nation as a whole, and women in particular. The event was attended by Indonesian alumni and Monash partners – from government, industry, universities, media, NGOs and cultural workers.

To conclude the tour, Monash hosted an evening reception in Jakarta, where we welcomed senior alumni and showcased the globally-renowned World Mosquito Program overseen by Professor Scott O’Neil. The WMP is expanding its method for low-cost, large-scale eradication of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, yellow fever, Zika and Chikungunya, across urban areas in Indonesia, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Sri Lanka, India, Vietnam, Kiribati, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Mexico.
