On My Life
Providing respect, engagement, and intergenerational understanding.
This is an innovative project that offers considerable benefit to a growing and challenging sector of society.Peter Johnstone OAM, FAICD, Deputy Chairman, National Seniors Australia
On My Life, unlike other memorial sites, celebrates the lives of the living rather than the memory of those who have passed. On My Life enables elderly residents in care with little computer literacy the means to intuitively store and share key moments in their lives while building self-esteem and self-worth. By acknowledging the value of their lived experiences and permitting others to share in their memories, On My Life elevates aged care residents from “patient” to “person”. Residents become the story-tellers of Australia’s rich social and cultural history, creating a valuable resource for both families and social historians. In doing so, the project values the lives and experiences of aged people in residential care, improving their quality of life and helping to ensure that their wealth of knowledge is not lost to their families and to the community.
On My Life was the winner, RMIT, Design Research Institute 2013 Design Challenge: Ageing.
