Public Lecture on The Collapse of Values by Julian Burnside AO QC
We are excited to announce that Julian Burnside AO QC will be delivering a public lecture on ‘The Collapse of Values’ on the 11 September at the Monash Law Chambers, Melbourne. This lecture will be followed by a panel discussion on ‘Asylum seekers and Australian policy’, which will comprise of The Border Crossing Observatory’s Leanne Weber, with Alan Gamlen, Helen Forbes-Mewett and Rebecca Wickes from Monash Migration and Inclusion Centre.
Julian Burnside AO QC is a barrister based in Melbourne. He joined the Bar in 1976 and took silk in 1989. Whilst he specialises in commercial litigation, he acts as a pro bono lawyer in many human rights cases, in particular concerning the treatment of refugees. He has recently been the subject of the documentary film Border Politics, challenging the audience to consider their human rights obligations towards the desperate needs of refugees and to force their governments to take a more humane approach.
