The Deep Time Indigenous Ecologies program will merge research in the humanities and social and physical sciences with Indigenous knowledge systems, with a focus on Australia and Oceania.

The program will explore Indigenous knowledge systems and associated practices that supported diverse and successful lifeways across a range of environments in the ancient and recent past. The research is interdisciplinary and collaborative, incorporating Indigenous studies, archaeology, ethnography, oral history and historical and museum studies. The aim is to humanise the deep past through a study of Indigenous socio-ecological agency in Australia and adjacent regions.
