Creating a new platform for women’s voices
Bachelor of Arts student, Noorah Alshmaimry
How can you be a filmmaker in a country that bans movie theatres?
Bachelor of Arts student Noorah Alshmaimry is a budding filmmaker and is passionate about getting women’s stories out there in the world, especially for the women in her home country of Saudi Arabia.
So she is setting up a video channel which features the voices and stories of Arab and Middle Eastern women, a platform to nurture women’s creative talents in-front of and behind the camera; from directors, producers, writers and actors, to art directors and graphic designers.
Noorah says, “I hope it will also show that films and channels with women at the centre can be successful in every sense.”
Noorah was also recently invited to be part of the Monash Global Discovery Program where she and other Monash students met with UN policy makers, top advertising executives and newsmakers.
Noorah quit Medicine to pursue her studies in Arts and says “I am a believer in the subversive power of storytelling”… so we can’t wait to hear what she comes up with.
