Rethinking city guide publishing
Monash Arts graduate, Nick Shelton
How do we capture the energy of a city and connect people with that in new and exciting ways? Monash Arts graduate Nick Shelton put his humanities training to that very question and came up with a new independent media publication.
After a stint working overseas, Nick Shelton was struck by the buzz in Melbourne – and the lack of a city guide to connect people with that buzz … so he decided to create Broadsheet, an all-in-one guide to food and drink, nightlife, fashion and shopping, art and design, entertainment, and more.
Nick had studied Politics and Film and Screen studies in his Bachelor of Arts degree and he says, “I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do when I finished high school but liked the idea of taking a broad approach to my education.”
Broad indeed! The publication now employs over 50 people, and Nick has recently launched Scout, Broadsheet’s new employment website.
