- Gain practical industry experience and expand your professional portfolio: Hone your career competencies via an industry internship, a major project, an advanced simulation, or specialised professional practice units (depending on your choice of specialisation). Choose also from our suite of unique Professional Enhancement Program (PEP) modules taught by academic and industry experts, or from a wide range of enrichment units and complementary electives.
- International double degree available with universities in France, Japan, or Italy. You’ll study one year at Monash in Australia and one year at the partner university and receive two master’s degrees, one from each institution. Industry endorsement with NAATI and CIUTI
Our course is endorsed at the Certified Translator, Certified Advanced Translator, Certified Interpreter, Certified Specialist Interpreter (Legal), Certified Specialist Interpreter (Health), and Certified Conference Interpreter levels by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI).
Monash was the first university in Australia to be a member of the Conférence Internationale Permanente d’Instituts Universitaires de Traducteurs et Interprètes (CIUTI), the world’s oldest and most prestigious international association of tertiary institutions offering degrees in translation and interpreting.
Workplace internships and networks
This course incorporates a minimum of 50 hours of professional internship to give you real-world experience which will be transferable to the workplace. By working alongside professionals in the field, you’ll develop work relevant skills and a clearer understanding of the way in which theory relates to practice.

Entry level 1: 96 points to complete Duration: 2 years full-time, 4 years part-time | An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in any discipline including advanced bilingual proficiency* with at least credit (60%) average. or An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) and an Australian graduate certificate (or equivalent) in any discipline including advanced bilingual proficiency* with at least credit (60%) average in both qualifications. |
Entry level 2: 84 points to complete Duration: 1.75 years full-time, 3.5 years part-time. | An Australian bachelor honours degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline including advanced bilingual proficiency* with at least credit (60%) average. |
*Note: The level of language competence should be the equivalent of at least three years post-VCE study.
Depending upon your prior qualifications and experience you may be eligible for entry credit which reduces the duration of the program.
Suzhou
An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in English translation or English interpretation.
For SEU students: An equivalent score in the National Master Unified Entrance Examination will be utilised in place of the required WAM score of an undergraduate degree.

There are two streams in this course: Interpreting and Translation Stream and Translation Only Stream. The course comprises 96 points structured in four parts: Part A. Foundation study, Part B. Principal study, Part C. Applied study, and Part D. Specialist study.
