At Monash Indonesian language study is available from the introductory to advanced levels, in accordance with internationally recognised standards. We offer a unique undergraduate program that incorporates language acquisition and cultural competence. The core units of our major have been mapped against the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, allowing students to track their progression against clearly defined benchmarks.

In Indonesian studies students can achieve the level of C1 (Proficient User – effective operational proficiency level) through a fully integrated curriculum. This has the objective of providing for both the generalist students of Indonesian Studies who may wish to seek breadth of training in this area and the specialist student who seeks depth of training in a particular field. This program also prepares students for further studies at both the Honours and postgraduate level.
