At Monash you can learn Spanish as a foreign language from introductory to advanced. We offer a unique undergraduate program that incorporates language acquisition and cultural competence. The core units of our major have been mapped against the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, allowing students to track their progression against international benchmarks.

In Spanish students can achieve a level of B2 (Independent user-vantage level) through our language instruction and cultural skills units. At an advanced level, students may acquire the skills that would take them to C1 (Proficient User – effective operational proficiency level) on the framework by completing ATS3257, combined with other electives. At the advanced level language skills are acquired along with critical and analytical skills through theme-based teaching rather than traditional language instruction.
